Bessemer Presbyterian Church is a small congregation on a big mission. We have a legacy of embodying the Good News of Jesus Christ to the Bessemer-Mohawk Community spanning more than a century.

Our history reflects that of our surrounding community, experiencing with it our share of highs and lows. With the decline of the industries that gave rise to our region came the decline of both our congregation and the demographics of the larger community. A number of factors led to a sharp decline in participation by the mid-2000's, forcing our congregation to think deeply about the future. A season of prayerful discernment, reorientation of ministry focus, and intentional re-engagement with the community led us to a season of renewal and growth through the 2010's and continuing to this day.

This experience helped our congregation realize Jesus' mission for us extends beyond the walls of our building to engage both the surrounding community and mission partners across the globe. We remain an intentionally small but vital congregation, and true to our original vision: to serve the Bessemer Community by proclaiming and living out the Good News of Jesus Christ. Indeed, BPC is a church of resurrection hope, and a testimony to the power of the Holy Spirit to breathe new life even into situations of death and despair. In all we do, we seek to offer that same resurrection hope and power of the Holy Spirit. We seek to give a glimpse of the Kingdom of God that Jesus ushered into this world, and to allow the Kingdom to break into the lives of individuals and the life of our community. And above all, we seek to be a welcoming spiritual home for all persons of various ages and walks of life, offering a Christian community which fosters deeper faith and engagement with the world in Jesus's name.
