As a church, we believe that the Risen Lord is at work in the world by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are called "beyond the walls" to join in the ministry of Jesus wherever we find him at work. In those places, we seek to share the good news of Jesus Christ in our speech (evangelism) and our actions (mission). Here are a few of the ways we do that.
Membership and Evangelism Team
As a committee of the Session, the Membership and Evangelism team seeks to be the outreach arm of our congregation. Partnering with the Deacons and the Presbyterian Women, this team helps us find ways to build relationships with others in our community, and to partner with other local and international ministries and mission co-workers, to promote the sharing and embodying of the Good News of Jesus Christ. They also have spear-headed several projects, including the MoCo Grows Community Garden in Bessemer, and helped to establish a scholarship fund for youth in the community to attend church camps. For more information, please reach out to elder Eric Patton or chairperson Nikki Patton.

Mohawk Coffee House (MoCo House)
The beginnings of this ministry go back to 2012 when Pastor Nathan and two other pastors in our community felt God calling us to create a space beyond the walls of the church for ministry in the community. A board made up of members from five local congregations initiated the process which eventually became a community-wide mission endeavor.
In December 2014, Mohawk Coffee House (MoCo House for short) opened in the former Bessemer Diner. As an independent, non-profit coffee shop, it exists to: "Create a positive and save environment, as well as a space for fellowship and outreach; and to build the Mohawk Community and disciples of Christ." Several of our members volunteers as baristas, serve on the MoCo House board of directors, and/or patronize the shop regularly. Click here for more info.

Presbyterian Women
Presbyterian Women understands that scripture asks us to be the hands and feet of Christ in the world. As such, Presbyterian Women provides information about justice and peace and ministry to inform mission and community-building work.
Bessemer Church has its own PW organization which also works with fellow PW organizations on a presbytery, synod and national level. Through various financial and supply collections, the annual Thankoffering Sunday service, and other means of advocacy, BPC's Presbyterian Women keep us focused on the mission of Christ beyond our walls. Project HOPE
Project HOPE stands Helping Other People Everyday. A ministry of the congregations in the Mohawk School District, Project HOPE has a variety of ministries throughout the year including: Back to School, Christmas, Easter and Birthday. Their largest, ongoing ministry is the Food Bank, providing help with hygiene and non-perishable food items. Donations for the Food Bank and monetary donations for Project HOPE are welcome.

5 Star Global Ministry
5 Star ministry is a Christ-centered ministry committed to "making the Invisibleā¦Visible" by giving a voice to the voiceless through Christ, Church, and Community. It exists to empower families, caretakers, and local leaders to provide Christ-centered disability care, while equipping and training nationals to become advocates for individuals with disabilities in underdeveloped countries. Through the advocacy of co-founder Autumn Marshall, BPC began a relationship of prayerful support in the past few years. To learn more about their ministry, click the link below.
